Welcome from our President
Tauranga Te Papa Rotary Club was founded in 1981. The club meets every Thursday for lunch at The Fish & Dive clubrooms, 60 Dive Crescent, Tauranga. They feature a great mix of members who pack a lot of fun, humour, networking and good food into their meetings along with a diverse range of entertaining & inspirational guest speakers. Tauranga Te Papa are a strong and vibrant club of around 50 active members who are passionate and committed to engaging in projects of benefit to both local as well as international communities.
The club is involved in a number of Rotary Youth programmes, particularly International Youth Exchange & Youth Driver Awareness etc. They give hands-on support to the Welcome Bay Primary School and are sponsors of a junior Rotary Club (Interact) at ACG School, which caters for pre-schoolers up to year 12 students. Interact members provide practical support as well as funding for local community projects.
Tauranga Te Papa are a very socially active club, organizing an annual Car Rally, movie evenings, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, Friday night drinks to name but a few. Club members contribute locally to the development of the Tauranga Kopurererua Valley Reserve with on-going tree planting and rat baiting activities. Members also assist with the preparation of science kits for distribution to local primary schools.
Fundraising events feature the Great Tauranga Duck Race, annual Charity Golf Tournament and many fun events such as debate or quiz nights. Funds from such events go to support local organisations as well as the wider Rotary International Foundation which actively promotes Polio eradication worldwide as well as providing aid to developing countries or those affected by natural disasters.
Rejuvenation is an essential component of any organisation, and Tauranga Te Papa Rotary is always keen to recruit new members who espouse Rotary ideals, including “service above self”. Members live in one of the best cities in New Zealand (and arguably the world), and our goal is not only to maintain a vibrant Club but to do so with increased participation. Typically, 80% of the work is achieved by less than 20% of the membership, and the challenge is to increase that participation rate (in all aspects of Rotary) to get the most out of this wonderful organisation. Tauranga Te Papa Rotary Club looks forward to welcoming visiting Rotarians and prospective new members to any of their meetings…
Visitors and partners from other clubs are always welcome to our luncheon meetings.
