The Great Tauranga Duck Race - Sunday October 9th at 10am

This is a fun family event to raise funds for charity on the Tauranga waterfront at The Strand, organised by Tauranga Te Papa Rotary Club.

5000 numbered small plastic ducks are launched into the harbour, to race down a short course on an outgoing tide. Tickets ($5 each) are available through participating local schools, and available on the day. Cash prizes are awarded to the winning ducks, attendance is not required to collect.

Businesses can also take part in the corporate race, by purchasing larger ducks for $200 + GST, which they can brand in their own corporate colours. The corporate race has two divisions – assisted (eg. remote controlled) and unassisted, with bragging rights rewarded by trophies for the winners and best dressed.

Proceeds raised this year will benefit local participating schools (who receive 100% of ticket sales they make), our three local surf lifesaving clubs, the Rotary Youth Driving Awareness program for Year 12’s, and the YWAM ship Koha which provides medical aid to the Pacific.

Support for the event is provided by our major sponsor Forsyth Barr, McLeod Cranes, and Mainfreight, and surf club IRB’s ensure all ducks safely return!
